Bt. Brinjal can be back shortly
- In the backdrop of the opposition from the NGOs and some of the states, India had banned the cultivation of the Bt. Brinjal in feb this year. It had ordered a laboratory test to compare the efficacy of the Bt. Brinjal and natural brinjal.
- One of the main contentions of the cultivation was the effect on the derrived ayurvedic medicines. The Genetic Engineering Approval Committee ordered the component analysis of the Bt. Brinjal to find out the same.
- The tests will be completed in coming two months and it is predicted that the results will be in favor of Bt. Brinjal, which will pave the way for cultivation of the crop again.
Even Kalmadi issue is back on charts again
- The union sports minister Ajay Maken on friday said that the appointment of Mr. Kalmadi was the result of the agreement signed by the NDA government during its regime.
- “The IOA on November 1, 2004 getting benefit from the Host City contract elected — not selected, not recommended — Suresh Kalmadi as Organising Committee chairman and the people who elected Kalmadi as Organising Committee chairman were Viajy Kumar Malhotra, Abhay Chautala, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Tarlochan Singh — all from the NDA,” he said.
- This led to a chaos in parliament when NDA opposed the statement and started shouting in house.
- Also, commenting on the role of PMO during the UPA regime, the minister said that The PMO had no option because of the agreement design.
Sensex down but not out
- The sensex on Monday, amid the great concerns of the recession on the US market and the downgrade of the AAA rating of the US by S&P, performed quite well. It was only down by 58 points, as opposed to the concerns of huge dip.
- The confidence in the Indian stock market was also as a result of good performance on the European markets. The European markets shrugged the downgrading of the US rating.
